Joe wins Bronze

9 October 2019

Huge congratulations to Joe Fairburn of Wharfe Valley Archers, who won bronze at the European Field Archery Championships, held in Mokrice Catez, Slovenia, in the Recurve Junior Men category.

Beating the 9th, 6th and 4th seeds to make the semi final, only to be beaten by the number one seed and eventual winner, Joe comfortably won his bronze medal match to secure the victory.

A well earned success. Congratulations from all at the YAA.

Cash boost helps archery club with expansion plan

Archers of Bridlington and Burton Agnes - 29 July 2019

After receiving authorisation from its committee to apply, the Archers of Bridlington & Burton Agnes, based at the Villages sports field, has secured funding to improve its facilities thanks to a grant from the Lissett Wind Farm Community Fund.

The project was aimed at tackling one of the club's biggest problems, which saw it struggle to move the weight of its straw made targets.

In addition to the issues with the targets the club also struggles with a lack of storage space and is in desperate need of a larger container to house its targets and equipment.

The Lissett Wind Farm Community Grant, which is worth 6492, will enable the club to purchase a second hand 20-foot container and 12 Danage targets, much lighter than the ones currently being used.

Archers of Bridlington & Burton Agnes Club believes the Grant will help to move the club forward significantly and hopefully attract new members.

A massive thank you to Lissett Wind Farm Community Fund for this grant, as without this the project would probably never have been completed.

Thanks from De Notton Bowers

Brian Davies - 18 June 2019

De Notton Bowers would like to thank all the archers who attended our first longbow competition, which was a complete success. The weather was a mixture of sun, wind and rain but it did not spoil the day. All archers enjoyed the day and gave us some good feedback on our venue and the competition which we listened to and will act on for future events.

Hope to see you all back next year.

Many thanks from all at De Notton Bowers.

Judge at a ridiculous number of events
 Nutritional Advisor
Mentor to candidate Judge (Allan 2 or Paul Dean as he is actually called)

Allan has been present on many an archery field over a number of years. He is a well known judge who is always calm and approachable. You can trust him to be fair (although I still maintain that line cutter was in!) and he will explain things if you are unsure.

He has given up a large amount of his time over the last year (or two) to judge at tournaments meaning that the shoots can run and other judges have the opportunity to shoot.

Through his wife's love of baking he has kept many of us well fed with cheesecake over the years, donating one of the much loved baked goods to a Junior Archers fundraiser at the National Barebow Championships - not deterred by the fact this Junior wasn't even a member of his club.

Through his work as a judge Allan has taken on a candidate (Paul) who is affectionately known as 'Allan 2'. He is definitely passing on his chilled out attitude and general demeanour to another judge, helping shoots within the county continue running.

We are aware that he is stepping back his duties in 2019 and we feel this is a fitting way to thank him for all his previous work for the county (even if he is a Welshman!).

Stolen equipment

Please be on the lookout for some archery equipment which was stolen in a burglary in Hull on Sunday the 19th of May.

A blue Samick Vision bow and reddish-brownm arrows were taken, along with other items. The bow and the arrows are known to have been sold in Hull city centre very shortly afterwards. The buyer may attempt to sell the equipment on to a club, shop or archers.
