ABBA Dabba Do shoot 2021

Dave Hunt - 31 October 2020

With regret we are cancelling the Archers of Bridlington & Burton Agnes 2021 ABBA Dabba Do shoot.

THis is due to COVID-19 and the restrictions which look as though they are going to be with us for a long time.

We hope to be running the shoot again in 2022.

Bev DeToeuf memorial fund raiser

Anthony DeToeuf - 26 August 2020

It is with a heavy and broken heart that I post this but on Wednesday 12th August my mum was rushed to hospital and unfortunately she passed away with me and Jonathan with her in the early hours of Thursday 13th August. She died of a stroke, completely unexpectedly and with no warning signs.

My mum was a wonderful woman, whose passion for adventure and travel saw her live her life to the full. From trekking through South America, Vietnam and east Asia to volunteering in Malawi and visiting Antarctica and had it not been for Covid-19 she was due to go to the Galapagos earlier in the year.

She was an advocate for sport and wanting to increase participation in sport particularly archery and making it more accessible to more people through social enterprises. As well as developing the next generation of archers including her grandson Reuben, who at aged three was the youngest unofficial member of Aire Valley Archers!

Mum was an inspiration to me and my brother Jonathan helping us both more than she will ever know. It is only now as parents we truly realise the sacrifices, time, determination and love she gave us growing up to make sure we had every opportunity possible.

I will strive to live the rest of my life in the same vein as my mum did hers, seek out adventure, live life for now and ensure my children are given the same love, opportunities and support she gave me and my brother. Not only as children but right through our adult lives.

Mum's funeral will take place on Thursday 27th August at 12:30pm at Skipton Crematorium. Sadly due to COVID we are limited to numbers inside the building and these have been allocated, you are welcome to join us outside the venue where the service will be broadcast via speakers. There is also an online webcast of the service which can be viewed at:

Mum you have been taken so soon and had so much more to offer the world...we will love you always...

Bev DeToeuf

16 August 2020

Bev DeToeuf of Aire Valley Archers has died. She passed away in the early hours of Thursday the 13th of August 2020, surrounded by her sons.

Bev was a highly accomplished archer, who represented Yorkshire. She was also one of the county's most active archery coaches. With Sarah Tilbrook she ran First Point Archery in Keighley, and was very involved with YAA Coaching, Arrowhawks Archery Academy and the National Talent Development Programme North. She was a serving member of the YAA committee at the time of her passing, She helped a huge number of archers over the years, and was always a great shooting companion at tournaments.

She will be much missed. The YAA extends its sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Donation of target stands by Aardvark Archery to YAA

Gwen Smith - 23 July 2020

At this time when local businesses need support from their community, Aardvark Archery is generously supporting the Yorkshire archery community with a donation of 20 new target stands to the YAA. The stands are designed and built by Aardvark Archery for use with the brand new Tell foam targets purchased last year and will enable 3 or 4 compound faces on a single boss for the double 720.

At a time when income is low and funds are tight the donation is greatly appreciated and has saved YAA a considerable sum. We look forward to using the new stands (and bosses) at the Wetherby shoots in 2021.

Thank you to the Aardvarks!

Wharfe Valley Archers MIdsummer Field Shoot rescheduled

Colin Fairburn - 22 April 2020

As expected it looks like Wharfe Valley Archers are going to have to move our Midsummer field shoot to the reserve weekend of the 10th-11th of October. The shoot remains a record status event and incorporates the 2020 English Field Championships.

The good news about the delay is that hopefully all the logging that is taking place will have been completed and the woods will be even better than they are now. Additionally October, along with spring are the nicest times of the year in the woods at Wharfe Valley (although we can't do anything about the weather).

All entries remain valid. However, please contact me directly via email:

if you can't make the new dates and would like a refund of your entry fee. Your support is very much appreciated.

Many thanks,
The Management
Wharfe Valley Archers

Noel Lawrence

Chantry Bowmen of Rotherham - 2 April 2020

It is with deep regret that we inform you that Noel Lawrence passed away on March 27th 2020.

Noel and his wife Audrey founded Chantry Bowmen in 1959. It's safe to say that without Noel there would be no Chantry and many of its members wouldn't be archers at all. The world will be a poorer place without him and archery will never be the same again without his guidance and support.

Just the thought of him being there improved peoples' shooting and I will miss him dearly.

If ever a man deserved a send-off to rival royalty it's Noel Lawrence and sadly with the current restrictions in place we won't be able to give him that. His nephew, Robert, plans to hold a memorial service when it is possible. Our thoughts are with all Noel's family at this tragic time.

Noel's funeral service will be held on Tuesday 7th April at 3:30 PM. We invite archers to observe a two-minute silence in place of our presence.

Thirsk Bowmen awarded Performance Specialism Club status

Danny Cameron - 24 March 2020

Thirsk Bowmen was today given Performance Specialism Club status. It was awarded based on the first application made, but was a culmination of a two year strategy at the club.

For the last two seasons, Thirsk has based its coaching on an annual coaching plan, where each coach has a specific area of responsibility, which is then supported by the rest of the coaching team. Then last year, in addition to its established and successful Beginners and Improvers Courses, it added a Performance Group, so ambitious archers have a framework within which to progress.

The Performance Group (to which a Junior Performance Group is also planned) meets regularly, shares information, and each archer is provided with an innovative Shooting Journal and a periodised plan.

Like all other current activity, this is now under review due to the Covid-19 situation, but is a solid footing for the club to move forwards.

Chantry Longbow cancelled

Colin Hope - 17 March 2020

Hi All Archers,

Due to the current situation regarding the coronavirus, Chantry Bowmen have reluctantly decided to cancel the longbow shoot on the 2nd of May. I know this seems to be a bit previous, but we feel that as I am in the group of people that may be more susceptible, I have to be more vigilant. Also in the coming months I may be in isolation and unable to run the tournaments.

As for the other shoots in our calendar we are still hoping to host them, so please still send your entry forms in but don't send any payments in case of cancellation. Payments will be taken on the day - we just need to know the numbers for the ease of organisation and food orders etc. Any payments already received will be returned if the shoot is cancelled.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Dearne Valley AC Easter Weekend cancelled

Mark Tinker - 17 March 2020

In light of the most recent Government advice and guidance from Archery GB, it is with heavy hearts and regret that the committee here at DVAC have come to the unfortunate decision that the Easter Shoot on the 11th and 12th of April won't be going ahead.

The safety of competitors, officials and work crews is paramount and while ever there is a risk, the only way to fully mitigate that is to cancel the event completely.

We can only apologise for this but hope that you understand.

Obviously, full refunds will be given through Eventbrite.

Our field crew has put in an inordindate amount of work to get this year's course ready and it is with great thanks to everyone who helped out - this is no reflection on the hard work you have done.

As of now, we can't see the shoot being put on at a later date but we do have the Joyce Kiddy Memorial Shoot to look forward to on October 24th and 25th, which this year will be incorporating the Yorkshire and Northern Counties Championships. Hopefully, the situation will have eased by then and we can continue to enjoy our field archery!

Stay safe everyone and all the best.

NCAS AGM and Committee meeting cancelled

Ann Shepherd - 15 March 2020

Good Afternoon,

The NCAS Executive Committee have decided to call off both the AGM and the Committee meeting that were due to take place on Saturday 21st March.

Although we would not expect huge numbers of archers to attend our AGM it would be irresponsible of us to go ahead with the meeting given the current situation with coronavirus especially as we know the size of the room that we use and the fact that even a reasonable attendance would mean people sitting in close proximity to each other. This decision has therefore been taken as a precautionary measure.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The NCAS Constitution states that we shall hold an AGM in the month of March.

Obviously this year's exceptional circumstances mean this will not be possible and it has been agreed that no alternative date will be put forward and the following will apply:
The Society's Balance Sheet and accounts have already been presented to the membership as required by the Constitution.
There will be no change to the membership fees.
All NCAS Officers who wished to stand for re-election will automatically carry on until March 2021.
The Committee will hold an online vote to elect the PRO as the current postholder is not standing for re-election. It is believed that more than one candidate is to be nominated.

If you have any queries or issues with the decision taken please do not hesitate to send them to me.

Best regards
Ann

Adel St George shoot - expressions of intent requested

Nick Beeson - 14 March 2020

At the moment, the Bowmen of Adel are still intending to hold our competition on April 26th (entry form is on our and the YAA websites). This, of course, is subject to many current factors, not least government advice on Coronavirus or the health situation at our club.

However, we still need to prepare. To this end, could we ask anyone who is thinking of entering to send me an entry form; it is important that the form contains information on how best to contact archers, in case we have to cancel. I will happily accept email entries, so long as they contain all the necessary details. At this time, we would ask that archers do not send in an entry fee, but pay on the day. In this way we retain flexibility both for ourselves and archers, while still being able to estimate how many pies to buy!

Thank you for your assistance. I hope that you and your club are as little affected by the virus as possible - and that your archery can thrive in adversity.

Wharfe Valley Archers MIdsummer Field Shoot

Colin Fairburn - 11 February 2020

Wharfe Valley Archers are pleased to announce that their Midsummer Shoot on June 20 and 21 will be supporting the This Girl Can campaign. We would like to encourage as many female archers as possible to this shoot to try their hand at field archery. If you're a little wary and it's the first time you've tried field archery, there will be white pegs (max distance 30m) laid on the course and if you let us know when booking, we will ensure that you are put in a group with experienced field archers who can show you the ropes.

If you haven't tried field archery before but would like to give it a go (male or female, young or old) then our course is the ideal place to learn. It is set in a beautiful, broadleaf mixed woodland on a very gentle slope 10 miles north of Leeds. Click here for all the relevant information:

AGB club development workshop

Helen Smedley - 12 January 2020

Dear archer,

Through 2020, Archery GB will be delivering a number of club workshops across the country. We wanted to highlight that there will be a workshop close to your area, on Saturday 22 February, at Pennine Archers from 9:30 AM until 4:00 PM.

This workshop identifies and supports effective running of main club committees and boards, and highlights the importance of recruiting the right people for the right roles. The workshop covers: Reviewing your current leadership club structure, identifying the key components of an excellent leadership team of a sports club, and identifying how to achieve an excellent leadership team for your club.

The Club Development workshops are a great way to create space for committee members to discuss developing your club as a team, for clubs and volunteers to receive all the latest news and information from Archery GB, engage with content aimed at grassroots development, and also network and share best practice with members from local clubs and Archery GB staff. Other areas will include key updates from Archery GB and interactive group sessions to help grow and sustain membership, develop your club and ensure all archers receive a quality experience. We will share latest insights into our different types of members, funding opportunities and facility development.

Places are £20 per person: please book through the event on the members online portal and pay by card. If you are part of an onTarget club, there is a discount making entry just £10 per person. Lunch and drinks throughout the day are all provided.

For other training opportunities, please see the information available here (full brochure downloadable on this page):
